After an integral intervention that allowed the installation of the most advanced scientific and navigation equipment, the Muelle Pesquero of Cádiz has hosted the inauguration act of the Research Vessel UCADIZ on June 3rd 2016. The act has counted with the intervention of the President of the Junta de Andalucía, Susana Díaz, of the State Secretary of Research, Development and Innovation, Carmen Vela, and of the President of the CEI•Mar Foundation, and Rector of the University of Cádiz, Eduardo González Mazo, further than local Authorities, Representations of the Marine sector and of the University Community. The ship has been submitted to a deep renovation, which includes the installation of last generation scientific equipment. These interventions have been carried out thank to the funding of 1.500.000 euros obtained by the University of Cádiz through the 2014 Call of the Spanish Ministerio de Economia y Competitividad and the CEI•Mar. The UCADIZ, with 25m length and 7.5 beam, is the first research vessel ownership of the University of Cádiz and the CEI•Mar, and the first research vessel with permanent headquarter on the Andalucian coasts, as well as a largely demanded infrastructure by the researchers of the CEI•Mar and of the OMEG, with no precedent of such magnitude in our University system and in Andalucia.
